Barb Snelgrove

I honour the path our previous generations of activists have blazed and proudly carry their torch forward.”
Barb Snelgrove (she/her) is a multi-award-winning PR specialist, TV and radio broadcaster, writer, emcee and community advocate based out of Vancouver, B.C.
Named by OUTtv as one of “Canada’s Top Ten LGBTQ+ People Making a Difference”, her volunteerism spans decades and has been instrumental in the development of British Columbia’s 2S/LGBTQIA+ community, working with government bodies and countless non-profit organizations to expand the knowledge and positive awareness of 2S/LGBTQIA+ initiatives and issues.
Barb was the catalyst in the creation of Jim Deva Plaza and worked on the Deva Plaza Steering Committee for many years. She worked on the Positive Living BC Red Ribbon Advisory Panel to acquire funding for a new building (now housing Ribbon Community), spent three terms on the City of Vancouver 2SLGBTQIA+ Advisory Committee, was a Liaison on the Vancouver Police Dept. Diversity Advisory Committee and was integral to the development and growth of the Vancouver Pride Society Pride Celebration for over a decade.
She sat on the Board of The Centre (now QMUNITY) served on the LOUD Foundation Selection Committee, providing scholarships to 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. Barb was the former Communications Director of the GLISA 2011 North America Outgames, worked as a Mentor bringing the International Drag King Extravaganza (IDKE) Conference to Vancouver to name but a few of the many queer organizations and events she has helped to develop.
Barb is the Co-Producer/Host of QUEERFM, Canada’s longest running 2S/LGBTQIA+ radio show and was a contributor/host on Outlooktv / OutTV. She has written for many online publications, most recently as a featured writer of the Lonely Planet Book, “The LGBTQ+ Travel Guide. Barb continues to be a Consultant on 2S/LGBTQIA+ issues, social media, PR and brand promotions.
She was inducted into the Canadian Queer Hall of Fame in Toronto in 2014 alongside Jack Layton and Jane Rule.
